4 Laundry Tips for People Who Don’t Like Doing Laundry

Let's face it, unless you're a full-time naturist, laundry is irrefutably eternal! It's an inescapable endless chore that a lot of us would LOVE to avoid. Often it’s right up there with slow internet speeds and getting cut off on the roads as a source of personal frustrations. And then when the laundry goes undone, it can hijack your entire weekend. In fact, the average household washes between 3-5 loads of clothing per week and spends between 2-3 hours doing it. So here are 4 laundry tips dedicated to those who have better things to do than laundry.

1. Pre-Sort your clothes

When we first took the Laundry 101 course, one of the first things we learnt about laundry is that you should separate your clothes. However, wrestling your pile of dirty clothes into delicates, lights, darks etc can take a long time that you lose the motivation to wash them.

A laundry tip for people who don’t like doing laundry is to use laundry baskets to pre-sort your clothes into their necessary piles. Pre-sorting your clothes can reduce plenty of time out of your already time-consuming laundry routine. All that’s left is to toss them in the washing machine!

2. Split up the laundry workload

Carving out a significant chunk of time to do your laundry may be a bit overwhelming. Another laundry tip is to break up the workload into smaller bite sized chunks - think of it as doing laundry sprints rather than a laundry marathon. On average, it takes approximately an hour and a half to do a single load of laundry from wash to fold. The ideal time to do your laundry depends entirely on your schedule. If you’re an early riser, tackle a load of bedding before heading out for the day. Or you can wind down for the night by washing your darks.

3. Create a schedule and request some help

Laundry is always easier when you have a schedule and a helping hand which, dare we say it, could make laundry more fun. On Tuesday, for example, you might have greater energy and be able to tackle a heavier workload. You can utilise some Netflix-and-chill-time (Prime or Disney+ may also suffice) to divert your attention away from folding . Laundry becomes less of a chore as a result of this. Typically, there are multiple heaps of garments that must now be transferred to other bedrooms. Assign each household member their own laundry basket to make the process of putting things away easier. Arrange the empty baskets next to the folding pile. Place the folded garments in the appropriate basket for each person as you fold. After that, all that’s left is to deliver each basket to the appropriate bedroom. Alternatively, family members can just collect their basket of folded items and place it in the closet themselves.
